How to get started with online dating

Getting started with online dating is easier - and cheaper - than you might imagine.

As we get older, some of us lose confidence when it comes to entering the world of online dating. But these days it’s the most convenient place to connect with people outside our existing friendship and work groups, especially with our increasingly busy lives.

Creating your online dating profile

It sometimes difficult to write about ourselves, so it might be a good idea to get some help with friends or family - you want yours to stand out from the rest - include hobbies or places you’ve visited and why you love them.

Try to keep your profile upbeat, no mention of past relationships that didn’t go well, negativity and avoid phrases like “I never thought I’d be on here”.

What to do on your first date

A good way of meeting up is suggesting to meet for coffee; this can last an hour, or longer if you’re enjoying the company and would like to extend it to lunch.

Although it may seem a kind sentiment, don’t accept an invitation to be picked up from where you live, make your own way to the designated place and make your own way back, while making sure you’ve told someone where you’ll be. While we’re sure everyone you will meet on Yours Dating will be lovely we’d prefer to know you’re taking precautions to stay safe too.

Dating and the future…

Dating when you’re older is similar to when you were younger, although now there may be lots of extended family to impress. Remember though this is about the two of you so don’t get carried away, focus on the moment and enjoy it.

Hopefully we all want the same thing, someone we can have adventures with while navigating the rest of our journey.
