There are around 6.5 million unpaid carers around of the UK, each of whom do an incredible job of caring for family, friends and in some cases, strangers, who are going through difficult times.
Day in, day out, they give their life to helping others. And often they never get a break. In fact, research from respite care charity Revitalise and National Accident Helpline, found that 73 per cent of carers take one week's holiday or less every year, while one in three say they never get a weekend break for their caring role.
So in response to these staggering figures, the National Accident Helpline and Revitalise have launched The British Caregiver Award, set out to reward one carer with an all-expenses paid, 7 night break at one of Revitalise’s respite centres. The person who nominates the winning carer will receive a £250 Superbreak voucher as a thank you for highlighting their dedication.
Think you know someone who deserves a break? The deadline for nominations for the award has now been extended to February 18 and involves a quick and simple entry form.
Unpaid carers can apply for the award directly; alternatively carers’ friends or family can put them forward to be named British Caregiver of the Year. Support is available for applicants if they would prefer to fill in the form over the phone.
Visit the British Caregiver Award website www.national-accident-helpline.co.uk/british-caregiver-award for details of how to nominate. And good luck!
