What they say...

Y Spa is about health, wellness and rejuvenation and many of those things rely on pleasure. We work on the principle of pleasure, enjoying a lot of what's good for you and a little of what you like!

What our reviewer said…

We were met on a glooming Sunday morning at the spa reception by a warm friendly face. Straight away we were shown to the Spa Café for refreshments while we filled in the necessary forms. No waiting around, queuing and no being hurried along – it was blissfully relaxing straight away!

The changing facilities were nice – all scrupulously clean, with plenty of lockers, fresh towels and hair dryers. The downside was that there were a limited number of curtained changing rooms, which meant a bit of waiting around. Worth keeping in mind if you want to change before your treatments.

The spa facilities were clean and easy to access. The hydrotherapy pool is outside, but can be entered indoors so you don’t get chilly. It was lovely and warm so I wouldn’t worry about using it when the weather is cold, however I’m not sure if I’d fancy it in the rain. There are two saunas of different temperatures, two steam rooms and various experience showers – plus a rather chilly frost wall! Also, there’s a relaxation area with magazines and books, a peaceful sleep area and a curtained off waterbed area. Outside there’s a comfy sofa area with a fireplace and cosy blankets.

A two course buffet style lunch is included with all day spa packages and selected spa stay packages – and very nice it was too. I’ve been to a few spas that only serve very light healthy lunches and although nice, I’ve always left feeling a bit hungry! So, I was pleasantly surprised that we could choose between a lighter salad option, a delicious curry or Sunday lunch – topped off with apple crumble – perfect for a chilly Sunday! Spa guests dine separately from other hotel guests, so you have the option to eat in your robe if you like. We did this, but to get to the restaurant you do have to walk through part of the hotel and a lot of our fellow diners were dressed.

I tried a Katherine Daniels Velvet Skin Body Treatment and Skin Radiance Facial treatment, which took 50 minutes and costs £55. First the therapist exfoliated my body before applying a finishing cream to suit my needs and then the facial entailed a thorough deep cleanse. It was surprisingly relaxing and left my skin glowing. I also had an O.P.I Indulgent Hands Treatment (£35/50 minutes), which left my hands and nails looking gorgeous.

Overall we had such a lovely day. We were fortunate that the spa was very quiet in the morning, but noticed that later in the afternoon after 3pm the spa became quite crowded.

What I liked best about the spa, was how very nice everyone was. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone was helpful and smiley.

A great spa for a quick break or a treat day.
