From the first minute, when a wheelchair was provided at the door, to the help with taking our luggage to the car as we left, we couldn't have asked for better service. If you're considering a short break then Warners is very good value for money.
On the first evening we had dinner in the Blue Room, Thoresby's double AA Rosette-awarded restaurant. Guests can book a meal here for an extra £18 per person - and I would urge you to do so. The standard of service, quality of food and setting are all fabulous.
Dining for the rest of the stay was in the hotel restaurant, with equally friendly staff and plenty of tasty options. However, drinks are not included in your package. Payment is requested at the table, just as if you were at one of the bars or cafes in the complex.
The easiest way to keep this from catching you out is to set up a 'charge card' when you check in, and keep a tab running. The balance is then paid before you check out. It's all the more handy for knowing that if you take this option, all you need with you at any time are your room key and charge card.
Finding our way back to the room was a small adventure at first. As the hotel is half stately home and half modern building, the route is very twisty-turny. But with lifts and ramps aplenty, we had no difficulty getting about. By Saturday afternoon, we were dab hands at navigating the corridors.
Our twin room was well equipped, with grab rails in the bathroom, plus complimentary wine and chocolates. All we could possibly need!
We were kept busy throughout, with quizzes and film screenings, live music, comedy and magic shows - and an hour of dance and chat with Strictly legends Anton du Beke and Erin Boag on Saturday evening. As a treat, we also booked in for a heavenly massage (visit www.thoresbyspa.co.uk for pricing and further details).
don't miss the 'beach' in the grounds...
Hotel rooms are also supplied with blue towels, should guests wish to take a dip in the pool. So on our final day we ambled down to the indoors-outdoors fusion of period and modern (we think the new roof must cover what was once a courtyard) and enjoyed the jacuzzi, pool, sauna and steam room. You will need a pound for a locker, which you will get back. A laze on a sun lounger later and we set off for the Great Hall, to listen to the evening's pianist.
Thoresby Hall's old buildings are the perfect setting for relaxing. After a cocktail in the billiards room, a wine tasting class in the library, or a coffee by the fireplace in the Great Hall, I challenge you not to snooze in a comfy, high-backed chair or one of the sumptuous sofas!
To sum up: a top weekend, with the perfect balance of activities, time to relax, and great entertainment.
