Thistle Hotel Trafalgar Review

A fairly standard hotel within minutes of the West End

What they say

Just the hotel you need, whatever your reason for visiting London. The Thistle Trafalgar Square Hotel is located on a quiet side street right in the heart of London's West End. All 108 bedrooms at this four-star hotel have been recently refurbished and offer a great standard of comfort and style. In addition, the Royal Trafalgar has a ground floor restaurant which also benefits from a terrace so you can experience al fresco dining in the centre of London.

What our tester thought

It's unfortunate that when I visit the Thistle Trafalgar there's an inordinate amount of buildingwork taking place directly outside our window - which makes for an unlovely view and a rather loud, early wake up call. Of course it's not the hotel's fault, but they perhaps should alert customers before their arrival, as it would be an annoying discovery if you'd paid upwards of £165 for a restful night's sleep.

The hotel itself is amazingly placed for theatre visits and shopping trips, but other than its location is rather unspecial. It has a rather budget feel, with a lacklustre breakfast and standard rooms.

The upside were the staff, who were very welcoming and called the room within minutes of our arrival to see if there was anything we needed.

Personally, if I were staying in central London again I'd be inclined to find a B&B instead, but if you prefer a hotel you could do worse.
