What they say…

Tucked into 17 landscaped acres on the shore of the Humber estuary, the Hallmark Hotel Hull has a stunning overview of the famous bridge – once the longest single-span suspension bridge on earth: a memorable backdrop to romantic breaks, weddings and business meetings.

What we say…

After spending our Saturday exploring Hull's impressive aquarium, The Deep, and wandering through the history-steeped harbour area, we arrived at the Hallmark Hull Hotel and checked in to our room. The hotel is a ten-minute drive west of Hull city centre in the leafy area of North Ferriby and has stunning views of the majestic Humber Bridge. Its website boasts that the Hallmark's interior has a flavour of a boutique hotel, and the interior is decorated in a contemporary style.

We found comfy beds, complimentary toiletries, a great shower and chic bathroom. There is a good 24-hour room service menu, free wifi and also complimentary use of a well-equipped gym and a small sauna. We made our way to the brasserie style restaurant which overlooks a large lawn leading to the Humber Estuary, and beyond, views of the famous suspension bridge. Sadly our visit was in misty weather, but we could easily imagine what a spectacular view it would be with a sunset.

The restaurant offers a varied contemporary menu and seasonal local produce. I chose the Goan prawn curry with lentil dahl and flatbreads which was excellent. My husband opted for cod baked in parchment,  again beautifully presented. We followed this with tart tatin and chocolate cheesecake, both delicious. We relaxed in the cosy wine bar which has an attractive collection of wine bottles in display cabinets, and an outside decking area overlooking the lawn.

Sunday morning's breakfast, back in the brasserie offered everything you would expect from a buffet, both continental and cooked. We asked for vegetarian sausages which was no problem.

After breakfast we headed east for a bracing walk along the coast at Spurn Point, a narrow spit of sand which reaches out into the North Sea and guards the Humber Estuary.  We walked to the lighthouse at the end of the point watching huge container ships glide silently past, towards the ports of Hull and Grimsby. After much beach-combing during the walk we wearily headed back to Hull for a quick meal in one of the many new vibrant water-side restaurants, before making our journey back over the famous bridge and heading home.

The Hallmark Hull offers convenient and stylish accommodation with good road connections, close to the city of Hull and the East Yorkshire coast. With Hull's City of Culture status fast approaching in 2017, there's never been a better time to visit the area.

A double room The Hallmark Hull is from  £73.00 including full English breakfast.
