The Beaumont Estate Hotel in old Windsor is ideally located for visits to some of the nation’s greatest historical sites – and fun places for the grandchildren too!

Set on a 40-acre estate the hotel and events centre is just a few miles from Windsor Castle and a 14-minute walk from the historic site of Runnymede – the birthplace of English law.

The Estate itself dates back to the 14th century, and includes lovely grounds and a 14th-century chapel.

Run by PH Hotels, there are a variety of different-sized rooms to choose from, and free WiFi throughout. I stayed with a friend in a comfortable nice-sized twin room including sofa, tea and coffee making facilities and flatscreen TV.

If you enjoy keeping fit there’s plenty to keep you active including a fitness room, indoor pool and tennis and squash courts. For younger visitors there’s also a playground, indoor play area and a children's club.

Breakfast is served in a large restaurant area and is self-service with plenty of choice, including continental and fry-up options. It was very busy but staff did an excellent job ensuring people were seated quickly. For evening meals the Beaumont Restaurant was the place to go, with a carvery or a la carte menu available with Chef’s specials.

Service was friendly and the steaks ordered – one well-done, one medium-rare, cooked perfectly. As well as the main restaurant there was also a casual bar area serving food.

As mentioned earlier the hotel is not only close to historical sites but also near to an attraction the grandchildren would love – Legoland.

The hotel runs special offers for families, which include two-night accommodation and a two-day family Legoland pass for the popular theme park.

Checking out, which can be a nightmare when a hotel is very busy, was easy too with a drop–off container provided for door passes if no extra bills needed to be settled.
