They say…

Power and style. The 20 litre SM3080N digital microwave from Swan gives you 10 power levels with a maximum 800 Watt output, catering to all of your cooking needs. You’re kept in control at all times with the digital timer and the chrome buttons and knobs are really easy to use. To make mealtimes easier there are Auto Cook menus that will do the thinking for you. All this and it will look amazing in your kitchen with its full mirror door.

Our reviewer thought…

First things first - this microwave looks great on the counter top. Having a small, traditional kitchen with a light colour scheme, I really didn’t want a big, dark bulky appliance that was going to dominate the room. But this microwave blends in really well and is just the right size. I particularly like the chrome coloured features and grey casing which make it look a lot more expensive than it is in reality. I was initially dubious about the mirrored door showing up grubby fingermarks, but since the handle protrudes outwards, you hardly touch it. The build quality is also surprisingly good and I imagine it would be robust enough for daily use.

Whenever I’ve used smaller sized microwaves in the past, I’ve always found that are prone to moving as you open the door. But to my pleasant surprise, this model stays put not matter how eagerly you retrieve your food. The dials and buttons are so clear and straightforward to use that I barely needed to read through the instruction manual, unlike most modern techy appliances. If I’m being really picky, the noise isn’t particularly quiet and the buttons beep quite loudly, which might be a slight issue if you’re cooking a late-night snack while your household is asleep.

When it comes to cooking, it heats food evenly and quickly and the defrost function is particularly handy when you’re in a rush. Even though it is only 20 litres in size, it’s big enough to hold a dinner plate, which is great for re-heating meals or warming up crockery before serving. Once the time has ended, it will only give three short beeps, so there’s no need to rush over and turn it off.

Overall verdict: This stylish, compact microwave is excellent value for money and would work well in both traditional and contemporary kitchens.
