A love affair with Sony rekindled
Product: Sim-free from www.sonymobile.com Price: £499.00 Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
I’m not a “techno geek” and after a long monogamous relationship with Sony, fell out of love with them some years ago, after upgrading to their original Xperia. So after many years of using A N Other brand, I welcomed the opportunity to try their latest version. The Sony Xperia Z3.
Although slim to hold, the Sony Xperia Z3 is a rather large handset encompassing the bright, clear 5.2-inch display screen. I liked the nylon “bumpers” on the corners (mine nearly always get scratched or chipped). To ensure it’s watertight, the ports have covers, but these are raised slightly and on the side of the phone, which personally I’m not a fan of. I wasn’t brave enough to test its waterproof capability but it’s reassuring to know it is, just in case.
It is loaded with the powerful and speedy Android 4.4 KitKat OS, so anyone used to using a smartphone will find it just as simple to operate, packed full of features and of course Sony has customised it with its own apps such as the Walkman.
Sony handsets have always been known for the superior camera function, and the Z3 is no exception with a 20.7-megapixel rear camera onboard. However, the default mode is 8 megapixels. The speakers on this model are at the front, and while the sound is improved the sound quality is so much better through the headphones.
Personally I find it a bit too big, but I’m still very impressed with this handset overall. There is also a compact version available.
