We tested the Slumberdown Wonderfully Warm Heated Underblanket on a chilly winter's night.
What the manufacturer says…
The deep filled, super soft, quilted fleece comfort layer is generously filled with premium fibres for an indulgently comfortable yet supportive sleeping surface.
What our reviewer said…
The clocks have gone back and the days have grown shorter… winter is here and we all look forward to snuggling down at night in a warm and cosy bedroom.
Slumberdown is a trusted name in the world of sleep…from duvets and pillows to mattresses.
The Slumberdown range of electric blankets is another reliable winner from this long-established company. I tried out the double blanket and discovered a wonderfully clever product which can focus heat on just your feet or the whole body.
It arrived folded up in a sturdy plastic holdall with zip, ideal to keep for storing other bed linen over the winter and then re-using to pack the electric blanket safely away when the weather outside warms up.
Two elasticated straps wrap underneath your mattress to keep the blanket in place while a deep, soft-to-the-touch velvety top ensures a perfect indulgent warmth at bedtime.
There is a detachable digital timer with nine heat settings and the selection choice of heating the entire blanket or just the end where your feet rest.
The blanket boasts a low energy consumption as well as a reassuring safety system with timer shut down. You can go to bed and relax that the blanket will automatically shut off after the chosen number of hours you have selected.
My memories of using an electric blanket previously was one of feeling the wiring system in the blanket coming through your bottom sheet… and waking up boiling hot after falling asleep with the blanket still on.
This experience was a far cry from those days and one I can highly recommend.
The manufacturer’s say the blanket takes just 5 minutes heat-up time to reach 37°C and is suitable for all-night use, but they advise keeping it on a low heat if you are tempted to do this.
Another bonus, and one I had to check twice, was you can wash your Slumberdown electric blanket. It can be washed by hand or in the washing machine on a 40° wool cycle. There are instructions on doing this and making sure to disconnect the mains lead from the blanket socket. I hope most people would know they had to do this.
A really useful addition is the velvety soft top layer of the blanket can be unzipped and washed on its own.
If you are drying the blanket on a washing line make sure the pegs avoid any of the wired areas as this could cause damage.
There is a guarantee of two years with this product while the Slumberdown website also offers great advice on various aspects of sleep and information about product stockists. The underblanket comes in sizes up to super kingsize.
Having started off rather indifferent to adding an electric blanket to my bedtime ritual I am a convert… it’s now a guilty pleasure. Winter never felt so good!
