What they say it does:
Amazingly comfy and cooler than memory foam. The topper is a generous 6cm thick, making it deep enough to support the body’s contours keeping the spine straight all night long. It gently adapts to any shape, yet, unlike memory foam, allows for easy movement, reviving the spine so you wake up refreshed and ready for the day ahead.
Proven to be significantly cooler than memory foam, thanks to Slumberdown’s clever Airstream® technology, the special fibres inside leave room for fresh air to run through, preventing the build-up of heat, whilst the Airstream® mesh side panels provide a constant supply of clean, fresh air. So you keep perfectly cool and comfortable all night long.
The topper is non-allergenic, easy to fit, with elasticised corner straps which hold it firmly in place, plus the cover can be removed and washed at 40°C and tumble dryed.
Our tester said:
I am one of those people who always feel too hot in bed but I do like to be snuggled under a duvet. Due to some back problems, I changed to a memory foam mattress a few years ago and have been really pleased with it. However, while memory foam does a good job of moulding to your body while still providing support, it does make you feel warmer, so I was really keen to try out the Slumberdown Airstream® mattress topper.
First impressions were that it was thicker than I thought it would be and felt really good quality. It was simplicity itself to fit to the bed with the elasticated corner straps giving a good hold. There was an interesting ridge right down the middle when I first unfolded it and fitted it to my bed (in effect, turning my double bed into a twin!) but after a while it settled down and after a night’s sleep, the ridge disappeared altogether.
This topper feels incredibly soft and comfortable; I felt as though I were sinking into when I got into bed. It didn’t wrinkle or kink at all in the night, as I am a bit of a restless sleeper, and I forgot I had it on almost straight away.
The weather has been so warm of late – especially at night – so I was looking forward to feeling a little cooler under the duvet and I wasn’t disappointed. The Slumberdown claim of fresh air circulating through the topper seems to work as I did feel cooler and so slept really well!
Funnily enough, my husband does not suffer in the same way and didn’t even notice the mattress topper under the fitted sheet; even when I pointed it out he said he didn’t feel a thing – proof of just how comfortable it is!
The Slumberown Airstream® mattress topper is priced at £59.99 for a double-sized bed (£49.99 for a single and £69.99 for a king) which I think represents good value for money. It’s machine-washable and can be tumble-dryed too so no expensive trips to the dry cleaner. I found it washed well and fluffed back up to its original size yet still felt soft. A good investment!
