What they say ….
This fantastic Salter air fryer is the healthy way to cook all your favourite foods with little or no oil. Simple and convenient to use with a digital LCD display, a 30 minute timer and automatic switch-off, the fryer circulates hot air around and through the food for a fast, thorough cook. A brilliant alternative to a deep fat fryer, it has 1400W power and a large 4.5 litre capacity with a removable, non-stick coated cooking basket which makes the food easy to serve and the fryer easy to clean.
What we say ….
The first few months of a new year are typically associated with an aim to get healthier, which with the UK winter months in full swing, can be a bit a hard task. With this in view, can a digital hot air fryer mean you can have some comfort food, without compromising on health? We have been pleasantly surprised by this Salter air fryer.
This air fryer is very simple to set up and comes with a very easy-to-understand and helpful user manual. The manual comes complete with tasty recipes and tips on how to make the best use of your air fryer.
Once we followed the set-up guide and became acquainted with the features (we particularly liked the 30 minute timer with automatic switch-off, digital touch sensitive controls, LCD display and solid non-stick drum for cooking your food in), we set off making our first side-dish, home-made chips (you can cook pre-prepared oven chips in this fryer but we wanted to try home-made).
The recipe/instructions were very helpful and we followed them to the letter. We chose to coat the chips in a low-fat version of oil spray and although a little skeptical on how crunchy the chips would turn out, we were very impressed by the results. We made sure we monitored the chips every 5 or 6 minutes giving them a quick turn every now and then and they call came out brown and pretty crispy. A thumbs up by all for home-made chips!
Whilst you can cook all sorts of things in this air fryer from breaded fish, to steak, to roasted vegetables and even a gammon joint, the ‘biggy’ for us was the family favourite (and one that always causes contention in our house as to who makes them best) of roast potatoes. Can the air fryer really cook not just a tasty, crunchy version of roast potatoes but also do so in just 30 minutes? Even we were skeptical but again, we were very pleasantly surprised!
It took us a couple of attempts to perfect the roast potatoes (the more you use it, the more you get to know the air fryer and how best to cook certain things) and once we did, we found them to be golen in colour and despite using a little under only 6 tbsp of olive oil (for extra healthiness) for 800g of tatties, they tasted crunchy and silenced some of the best skeptics in the house! This success means we will be confident on how anything else we cook in the air fryer will come out.
As regards cleaning of the air fryer, we found the air fryer easy to clean. The main cooking drum lifts out easily, enabling you to wash it in warm soapy water with ease and then dry. The second drum just needs to be wiped clean with a damp, soft cloth and dried thoroughly before returning both drums to the main unit. The main unit just needs wiping over with a damp cloth and drying.
In conclusion ….
Whilst a little bulky and on the heavy side for those with problems with their hands and wrists, we found the Salter EK2205 Healthy Digital Hot Air Fryer a welcome addition to any kitchen. We won’t deceive you into thinking chips cooked in a fryer or traditional roast potatoes cooked with goose fat in the oven, taste as good in this air fryer but they come pretty close and for a little extra help maintaining a healthy heart and trimmer waste-line, it’s worth the tiny sacrifice! Eating good food healthier, just got a little easier!
