Yorkshire folk might be renowned for their friendly ways but you’ll be hard pressed to find a warmer welcome in this neck of the woods than at the Nidd Hall Hotel.

In the charming Grade II listed mansion, we were instantly invited into a family of guests all looked after by a cast of charming, eager-to-please hosts who became familiar faces throughout our stay. And with a range of daytime activities on offer with every break- there’s everything from pop choir to putting, cocktail making to archery- the best thing was that we didn’t need to plan a thing. We could just switch off, unwind and get on with having a good time.

We loved being able to try out new things and old loves just minutes away from our room. As all the activities were included in the price of our stay and available to take or leave as we liked, it took all the hassle out what to do each day- so there were none of those holiday family arguments!

And for when we needed a moment to pause and relax, we didn’t need to look much further than the beautiful hotel grounds of rolling fields and dreamy lakes (plus a lot of high-living sheep) for a relaxing stroll. A long Sunday morning swim or a game of badminton out in the fresh air were also right on our doorstep.

But for those who want to go a little further afield, Nidd Hall also boasts the ideal location between some of north Yorkshire’s finest treasures. Just a short drive away there’s the spectacular ruins of Fountain’s Abbey or the quaint cobbled streets of Knaesborough. I’d also heartily recommend a visit to nearby spa town Harrogate for the sole and unapologetic purpose of having posh afternoon tea at the world renowned Betty’s Tea Rooms (don’t leave without trying their Yorkshire curd tart- it’s the stuff of my dreams).

Back at Nidd Hall for the evening, we were delighted to find our usual predicament of where on earth to eat on our hols had been solved by a menu of delicious and fresh dishes on offer about thirty paces from our beds. These were really hearty meals that you could largely help yourself to- everything from curries to a full Sunday roast- and the breakfasts were even better (I struggled to be contented without a full English breakfast each morning for weeks after my trip).

Then came the evening entertainment, as Warner wound back the decades and brought our favourite tunes from the Fifties, Sixties and Seventies back to life. It was tough to not love taking that trip down memory lane as class acts took to the stage with their mix of comedy, compering and classic songs. By the end of the evening, most guests were on their feet dancing the evening away. A fun way to round off a busy day in the beautiful surroundings of God’s own county.
