What they say: “With new functions, the iRobot Roomba i7+ outshines many other robot hoovers. It’s suitable for hard floors and carpets and removes not only dust and dirt but also pet hair with a ten times stronger suction power. The Automatic Dirt Disposal takes convenience to a new level - automatically emptying into an enclosed, disposable bag that holds 30 robot bins, so you don’t have to think about vacuuming for weeks at a time.

What our tester says: “I was a little sceptical about using a robot hoover and thought it would turn out to be a bit of gimmick, that wasn’t actually practical in a busy household. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the iRomba i7. It’s incredibly easy to set-up, you simply need to download the app and you’re away. I loved how quiet it was, so quiet that my dog wasn’t even remotely bothered by it. He usually barks and growls at our Henry the hoover but he barely raised an eyelid at the robot. Its movements are very steady and it never bashes into anything so that helps. It works exceptionally well on both hard and carpeted floors and I was really impressed with how well it sucked up dog hair.

Amazingly it manages to give your room a very thorough clean and it does this because it’s able to climb up doorsteps or carpets with a maximum height of 2cm. I couldn’t believe it when I saw it get up onto the fireplace to give the hearth a good going over! It’s also fab at cleaning around table and chair legs- circling them 360 degrees to make sure it gets every bit of dirt. This is really handy as it means you don’t have to move furniture around prior to setting it off to clean.

As it cleans your house it starts to create a smart map so that it can learn the layout of different rooms. This is really useful for when you’re out as it means you can set it off remotely and tell it to clean whichever room you like. Bear in mind if you live in a two-storey house it can’t climb the stairs so you can only do one floor at once. There’s no need to worry about it accidentally falling down the stairs as it has an automatic drop sensory that allows it to change direction as soon as a drop is detected.

I’m not sure mine has quite got the smart map right yet but the battery life lasts for about an hour and half so that’s plenty of time do one floor in one clean.

The Romba i7+ comes with an automatic dirt disposal- perfect if you’re setting your hoover to clean while you’re out. The home base will automatically empty the robot’s bin into its own disposal bag which holds up to 30 bins of dirt, it’ll also automatically return to the base when it needs to recharge.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this product to anyone with pets, children, back issues and/or a demanding a job. It allows you to hoover your entire home at any time, when you’re out or busy doing something else. It completely takes the stress out of dragging a bulky hoover all round your house. It is pricey but this a very clever and advanced product in my opinion is worth paying extra for. The suction and cleaning power are excellent- it cleans places I wouldn’t normally do (e.g under all the sofas). Compared to the cost of a weekly cleaner I think you’d get more value money with this product as you can get it to hoover as often as you like, whenever you like and it will probably do a more thorough job!
