What our tester said...
I think - family and friends aside - my Roomba might be the best thing that's ever happened to me. I loathe vacuum cleaning - it's hot, difficult work which leaves me sneezing, and you can't even listen to music. I've often thought I'd like to hire a cleaner, but the expense and, more than that, the idea of someone picking through my dirty socks, has always put me off. The Roomba is the best of both worlds. He (for it's impossible to own one without prescribing it a personality) was really easy to set up, and can either be set to clean on a timer, or just turned on as and when. Then you just leave him to bumble around in his seemingly random fashion, picking up enormous clods of cat hair and - happily - undeterred by rugs and furniture. As advised by the makers, I used my upright vacuum cleaner the day before my Roomba, and was amazed at quite how much he was able to pick up that I'd previously missed. He slotted neatly under the sofa and coffee table, and even took himself 'to bed' (back to his docking station) afterwards to recharge. Yes, at £649.99 the Roomba 880 isn't cheap, but if you can afford one I'd say do it, without doubt. Cheaper models are also available, with the 650 model available for £379.99. The feeling that even as you settle on the sofa with a cuppa your house is being efficiently deep cleaned, is priceless.
