This year Disney on Ice presents Frozen – everyone’s favourite tale of sisterly love. We attended a Sunday afternoon performance at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham. When we arrived (an hour before the performance started) the queue to get in was already lengthy, but thankfully it moved fast. There were lots of very excited little girls and boys dressed up as their favourite Frozen characters who couldn’t wait to get in!

Inside the arena the atmosphere was slightly chaotic. This is a big event, so expect it to be very busy and expect to queue for everything – loos included. However, everything was very well organised and there were lots of helpers on hand to direct us to our seats.

Hosted by Mickey and Minnie, a real highlight for us was before the show some of our favourite Disney characters made an appearance. Favourites like Rapunzel, Cinderella and Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King, all gave us a cheery wave as they glided past and the excitement among the crowd was hard to resist. Our girls were both captivated seeing their favourites skate by!

The story of Frozen is of course beautiful and perfectly suited to the icy setting. We were super impressed with the set, the special effects (which included snow, fire and even an inflatable ice monster) and the more so with the ice skaters. Ice Queen Elsa and her little sister Anna are both portrayed by ice skating champions and both delivered a suitably stunning and seeming effortless performance. The whole cast was equally impressive and my girls especially loved charismatic snowman Olaf and cheeky reindeer Sven – skating at the rear of a reindeer can’t be easy!

We already knew that the Disney on Ice Frozen show was going to be a huge hit with our Frozen-mad four-year-old, but what did surprise us was just how much our two-year-old enjoyed it too! She sat through the whole performance, apart from when getting up to sing and dance along with every child (and adult) in the arena. There were a couple of scary parts (as with the film) but on a whole I’d say most ages will love this show.

The merchandise on offer, as expected, is hugely overpriced and the tickets are not cheap, but it’s well worth it to see the look on the faces of your smallest family members. A wonderful show for the whole family – truly magical!

Currently on tour around the UK throughout November and December 2016. Tickets start at £21.20, visit www.disneyonice.co.uk for more venue and date information.
