What they say:

Why not step away from the messy finger painting and muddy football sessions and take your children for a sophisticated Kid’s Afternoon Tea... for absolutely nothing.

What our reviewer said:

This afternoon tea is a perfect way to introduce your children or grandchildren to a fancy tea. It's the perfect summer  holiday treat -  we had such a great time it, was really special.

Tea at the Lancaster is served in a relaxed and cosy room full of sofas and comfortable chairs. It’s perfect for children and meant that we didn’t need to worry too much about their ability to sit still on stiff backed dining chairs in a really formal setting. That said there are still the crisp white linen table-cloths, napkins and silverware that you would expect at afternoon tea – which was lovely and quite brave because our children, aged between one and five years old, left quite a mess.

The staff gave us a very friendly welcome and paid special attention to the children. They didn’t even seem to mind when things got a bit raucous and sugar fuelled mid tea.

The children couldn’t believe their luck when they cake stands full of treats were brought out. They quickly tucked into their jam, nutella and peanut butter sandwiches, followed by chocolate brownies, scones, carrot cupcakes, raspberry chocolate lolly pops and a mini tub of chocolate ice cream. It was a great treat – although a little less chocolate and a few more fruit based treats such as a fruit tart or even a chocolate covered strawberry might have been nice for the children and might have cut through the sugar a bit.

The grown up tea was delicious too with some beautiful smoked salmon and aged beef sandwiches and mini tartlets. Then there was passion fruit and raspberry macarons, fruit tarts, carrot cake, freshly baked scones and clotted cream. When we could eat no more the staff kindly wrapped up the rest for us to take home.

The Lancaster are very proud of their Novus tea selection – and rightly so. I’m not a tea drinker but I loved the refreshing mint tea, which didn’t have that usual bitter after taste. Each pot comes with an egg timer so you know exactly when your tea is perfectly brewed.

We had such a lovely afternoon and it was great to be able to treat the children without it costing us a fortune. By far the best thing for us was the relaxed atmosphere at the Lancaster it was a really happy and fun experience and we'd really recommend it.
