Customers who are struggling with their energy bills should apply for the Warm Home Discount now to make sure they don't lose out on the £140 discount. The Home Heat Helpline, part of Energy UK, warns not to delay as many suppliers' schemes are now closing. For instance E.On states on its website that due to high demand, its scheme will end 'on or around this coming Monday (24th November)'.
The Warm Home Discount applies to electricity bills only and is run by the government and largest energy suppliers, it is means tested and each supplier has its own criteria. Essentially it is for vulnerable people, so pensioners and people who receive certain benefits. For more on eligibility, check here.
Customers who are not sure whether they are entitled to the help should contact their supplier or The Home Heat Helpline on 0800 33 66 99 - or 0333 300 33 66 from a mobile.
Energy UK’s Barbara Vest, which runs the Home Heat Helpline, said: “The Home Heat Helpline received almost 80,000 calls last year, but there were still thousands of people who missed out on help they could have had with their energy bills. That is why we're urging customers to call their energy provider or our helpline to make sure these people don’t miss out again this year.”
