Applying make-up can be simple thanks to the growing rise in older ‘granpreneur’ beauty bloggers. Look Fabulous Forever was set up in 2013 by Tricia Cusden, now 70, she’s aiming to provide over 50s with tips and products suitable for ageing skin.
The internet seems to be a place full of young beauty bloggers looking to offer fellow women make-up guidance, but it seemed the older generations often got left out of the online beauty scene, which is what Look Fabulous Forever have aimed to tackle.
Tricia found suggestions from the younger community simply weren’t suitable for mature skin types. She wanted to come up with a platform that could inspire people to feel better about applying and confidently wearing make-up.
Inspired to start this as a political act, Tricia revealed in her book Living the Life More Fabulous that she “was gobsmacked when Dior announced that Cara Delevinge was going to be the face of their new anti-ageing products. She’s 25. The outrage should have been loud but hardly anyone batted an eyelid. The industry language of “anti-ageing” is profoundly insulting. Adding that phrase to any product tells me, as a woman who is 70, that I must do everything in my power to stop this natural process.”
Now, 4 years later, their most popular video advising how to define your eyes and lips for over 60’s exceeds 2 million views. Their YouTube channel has over 25 thousand subscribers with over 100 uploaded video tutorials. They also have a blog on their website which is regularly updated and mostly focuses on beauty guidance however, also shares life direction and personal experiences from Ambassadors part of Look Fabulous Forever.
Tricia’s Top Tips for 50+
Without fail, cleanse and then apply a moisturiser (preferably with an SPF of 30) every day. Use a mild exfoliator regularly to get rid of dead skin cells and apply a moisturising mask weekly to combat any increased dryness.
Don't buy the 'less is more' diktats of young beauty editors by choosing only to wear a restricted palette of muted tones (what is often hyped as the ‘no-makeup makeup look'). After the menopause you will need to unify the skin tone by using a good Base such as our Continuous Cover Foundation. Apply with a brush and buff into the skin to create an even texture. At the very least apply a Beauty Balm on top of your moisturiser to help your face to look more even in tone.
Eyelids may have lost their smooth surface, so avoid lots of glitter or shine on the eyelids. All of our No Shimmer Eye Shades are matte so that they shape your eyes and add colour and definition without drawing attention to any crepiness. Our beautiful Lid Colours have a subtly shimmery effect and are designed to smooth the eyelid if you want something brighter than shadow.
Always wear mascara to bring some definition to the eyes. And make sure that your brows are groomed and have sufficient shape and colour to frame your face and eyes. Our Bring Back Brow Shape is great for this.
