A new petition has launched this week which calls for the ban of imports of puppies for sale in the UK. The people behind the petition are TV vet Marc Abraham and Lucy Parkinson, a dog lover from Preston.

Marc recently successfully changed the UK puppy-farm lawin the UK after seven years of campaigning. Lucy’s Law was put in place to ban UK puppy-farms and horrific conditions the puppies and their parents lived. Many of these puppies would often get very sick after being sold and would die within just a few weeks.

Unfortunately the hard work is not over as lots of puppies find themselves being imported abroad, giving them a traumatic start in life no dog should have to endure. Puppies are not meant to be transported over until 15-weeks, yet it has been revealed these beloved animals are being sent over as young as five weeks old, quite often already very sick, and separated far too early from their mothers.

Since its launch on Saturday 27th June, the petition now has over 32k signatures and counting, receiving over 10k in 24 hours and meaning the government must respond. It petition has also received support from celebrities such as Ricky Gervais and Katie Piper.
