As the party season creeps up on us, take a look at these winter cocktails, mocktails and smoothies - perfect for dinner parties and even some drinks for the designated driver! 

Rose lemonade ice cream floats

Ingredients

  • 1 tub Northern Bloc White Chocolate and Strawberry Meringue ice cream
  • Handful of raspberries
  • Dried rose petals
  • Crushed meringue pieces

For the rose lemonade:

  • 800 ml (27 fl oz) Water
  • 160 ml (5.4 fl oz) granulated sugar
  • 200 ml (6.8 fl oz) fresh lemon juice
  • 10 ml (0.3 fl oz) rose water

Method

  1. Combine water and sugar in a saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves
  2. Remove from heat and allow to cool
  3. Add to a pitcher and stir in lemon juice
  4. Add rose water to taste
  5. Chill well for thirty minutes
  6. Pour into individual serving glasses
  7. Add a scoop of Northern Bloc White Chocolate and Strawberry Meringue ice cream
  8. Top with raspberries, dried rose petals and crushed meringue

Mulled apple juice with Pink Lady pomander

Ingredients

  • 3 Pink Lady® apples
  • String
  • Skewer/toothpick
  • 60g (2.1 oz) cloves
  • 1.5 litres Pink Lady® apple juice
  • 3 shots of rum
  • Peel of 3 oranges
  • 5 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 star anise

Method

  1. Make each pomander by wrapping string around the Pink Lady® apple as if you are tying a bow around a present. Wrap the string around the apple three times and tie a knot to secure. Leave some long pieces of string on the top of the apple.
  2. Using a sharp skewer or a tooth pick, prick holes in vertical lines down the apple, then push the cloves into the holes.
  3. In a large pan place the Pink Lady® apple juice, rum, orange peel, cinnamon sticks, star anise and your Pink Lady® pomanders. Gently bring to a near boil, then let the juice simmer gently for 5 minutes and turn off the heat. Serve hot or warm.

Tip

Leave the star anise and cinnamon sticks in your drink for added flavour. 

 

Sparkling peppermint swirl

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ oz. (approx. 75ml) Black Raspberry Sparkling ICE
  • 1.5 oz. (approx. 45ml) Vanilla flavored vodka
  • 1 oz. (approx. 30ml) Crème de menthe liquor

Method

  1. In a shaker, combine ice, vodka and crème de menthe and grenadine.
  2. Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass rimmed with crushed candy canes.
  3. Top with Sparkling ICE and garnish with a candy cane.

Tip

If you don't have martini glasses, a wine glass will be just fine. 

 

Warm apple and cinnamon smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 large apple
  • 150ml (5 fl oz) almond milk (or milk of your choice)
  • 2 tbsp. oats (can use gluten free)
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp. Hemp Protein+ Flaxseed, Bio Cultures, Vitamin D & Co-Enzyme Q10
  • 1 tsp maple syrup (optional)
  • 150ml (5 fl oz) hot water

Method

  1. Combine the ingredients (minus water) in a blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Transfer to a pot and add the hot water.
  3. Gently warm until the desired temperature and transfer to a glass.

Notes

Preparation time: 5 mins

Makes: 1 smoothie

Nutrition: Vegetarian and dairy free 

 

Tip

This drink is also delicious served cold over ice

 

Cranberry rum punch

Ingredients

  • 1tbsp Frozen Cranberries
  • 40ml (1.4 fl oz) Rum
  • Dash of Angostura Bitters
  • 50ml (1.7 fl oz) Orange Juice
  • 50ml (1.7 fl oz) Cranberry Juice
  • 1tsp Orange Zest
  • 100ml (3.4 fl oz) SodaStream Sparkling Water
  • Sprig of Rosemary

Method

  1. Add rum to bottom of a highball, along with both the fruit juices and Angostura Bitters. Stir to mix. 

  2. Add the zest and the SodaStream sparkling water. Tip in the frozen cranberries and add a sprig of rosemary to serve.

If you don't have your own SodaStream feel free to use a sparkling water of your choice

Sloe gin fizz

Ingredients

  • 30ml (1 fl oz) Sloe Gin
  • 4 Frozen Blueberries
  • 100ml (3.4 fl oz) Prosecco
  • Splash of SodaStream Sparkling Water

Method

  1. Pour the sloe gin into a glass, add the prosecco and the frozen blueberries. Finally top with SodaStream sparkling water.

Thrilla in Manila

Ingredients

  • 50 ml (1.7 fl oz) Vita Coco water
  • 35 ml (1.2 fl oz) Tanqueray London Dry
  • 10 ml (0.3 fl oz) Pastis de Marseille
  • 2 dash Orange Bitters

Method

  1. STIR the ingredients on a mixing glass. STRAIN contents into a chilled glass.
  2. Garnish with Floating Star Anise
  3. Straight up

Christmas Bauble' recipe

Ingredients

For the spiced apple syrup:

  • 300g sugar
  • 353ml apple juice
  • Star anise, cinnamon stick and cloves
  • Apple slices and star anise, to garnish 1 bottle of Thomas and Evans No. 1

Method

  1. Make the spiced apple syrup by bringing sugar, apple juice and the spices to the boil.
  2. Cook until the sugar dissolves and set aside to cool.
  3. Pour 25ml of the syrup over ice, top with with Thomas and Evans No. 1 and garnish with slices of apple and whole star anise.

The syrup mixture is a batch recipe so you are able to save it to use another time.

Ingredients

  • 2.25 litres of apple juice
  • Juice of one lime
  • 2 tablespoons clear honey
  • 1 x 750ml bottle of Gran Stead’s Mellow Ginger

Method

  1. Mix all the ingredient together in a large punch bowl and decorate with lime wedges and sliced apple slices.
