16-in. U.S. size 4 circular needle
Four U.S. size 4 double-pointed needles
22 sts = 4 in. with Light Weight Smooth Yarn
Rnd 1: *K1, P1; rep from * to end of rnd.
All other rnds: K the P sts and P the K sts.
With circ needles and Pink/Blue, CO 72 sts. Place a st marker on right needle and, beginning Rnd 1, join CO sts together making sure that sts do not become twisted on needle.
Rnd 1: P. Work Seed st for 3 in.
Cut Pink/Blue and attach Green.
K1 rnd. P1 rnd.
Cut Green and attach Yellow eyelash.
With Yellow eyelash, work Seed st on all rnds for approx 2 in.
Dec Rnd 1: *K7, K2tog; rep from * to end of rnd.
Dec Rnd 2: *K6, K2tog; rep from * to end of rnd.
Dec Rnd 3: *K5, K2tog; rep from * to end of rnd.
Continue in established pattern, knitting one less st between dec and changing to dpns when necessary. Cut yarn, leaving a 6-in. tail. Using a tapestry needle, thread the tail through the rem sts on the needles. Pull the yarn, gathering sts tightly together, then secure the tail on the WS of work.
With 2 dpns and White, CO 7 sts.
Work I-Cord (see p.134) for 14 rnds.
Cut White, attach Yellow eyelash, and work 3 rnds.
Cut Yellow eyelash and, using a tapestry needle, thread the Yellow eyelash and White tails through the rem sts on the needle and pass all tails through the inside of the I-Cord.
Using those tails, attach the candle securely to the tip of the hat for a candle that will never burn out! Make French Knots with Red to create sprinkles on the top of your cupcake.
Thread a tapestry needle with White, pinch the hat at the Green pure rnd, and create a Welt by sewing together the top and bottom pieces using even running stitches.
Weave in all loose ends. Now it’s birthday time!
