Julie says: You’re not alone! The key is to find activities you enjoy (it doesn’t have to be exercise at a gym) and that you can fit into your weekly routine.
It can help if you make a ‘pact’ with a friend or family member who will help you stay committed so you encourage each other to go for a walk or a swim on days when your willpower is lacking.
Stick with it for at least 3 months and you will start to notice the benefits. Eventually keeping active will become as much a habit as brushing your teeth.
Make sure your activities challenge you a little, to make you breathe harder and feel warm (like a brisk walk), to stretch and reach (cleaning the car or bathroom) and to load bear (carry bags of shopping or walk up stairs).
Try setting yourself goals – make them realistic and achievable – then reward yourself when you reach each one. For example keep an activity diary to make sure you clock up 150 minutes of activity each week and then treat yourself, maybe put your feet up and read a copy of Yours with a nice cup of coffee!
