The happiest moments in life are the birth of a child and your wedding day, according to recent research.
Online insurance company Beagle Street quizzed 1,000 people aged 70 and over about when they were happiest, and their key pieces of advice to see us through the years. We're glad to see that many of the moments picked are to do with friends and family.
Top was the birth of a first child, closely followed by wedding days and the birth of grandhildren. Also in the Top 10 were retirement, moving house, childrens' first steps, and the ever-romantic First Kiss.
Most inspiring are the pearls of wisdom passed on by the survey's respondents. The ten all-important pieces of advice are as follows:
- Never take the people you love for granted
- Believe in yourself
- Remember what is important to you
- Nothing worth having comes easy
- Put your heart and soul into everything you do
- Don't hold grudges
- Don't be jealous of success
- Stop worrying and live in the moment
- Spend more time with your family
- Choose your friends wisely
The results coincide with the release of short film Happiest Moment, which features the UK's oldest couples talking about their favourite memories. Maurice and Helen have been married for 80 years, Betty and Doug for 73 years, and William and Maureen for 60. Watch them share their stories below:
