The best future for our furry friends

The best future for our furry friends

Pets bring us so much joy throughout our lives, but how can we make sure they’re cared for when we’re no longer around?

On good days and bad days, we know our beloved pets are there for us no matter what. Whether it’s a wagging tail or a contented purr, they let us know that we’re loved and enrich our lives day in day out. They’re one of the family we wouldn’t be without and because of that, we give them the very best care, attention and love we can throughout our lives.

But what happens if our pets live longer than we do? Whether your furry companion is a perky young puppy or a mature feline, we’d all like to think our animals would be taken care of should something happen to us.

One of the best ways to protect the future of your four-legged best friend is to apply to register for the Blue Cross’ Pets into Care scheme, which gives you the promise that should they live longer than you, Blue Cross will nd them a new, loving home.

As a charity with more than 100 years’ experience of caring for pets
in need, Blue Cross are the experts in finding your pet the happy home they deserve and ensuring your last wishes are followed. That means you can get on with enjoying the rest of your life with your pet by your side, with the peace of mind that they are going to be okay when you’re no longer around.

From dogs to donkeys, hamsters to horses, Blue Cross will register up to four animals per household onto the Pets into Care scheme and pets will be considered for rehoming regardless of whether you are already a Blue Cross supporter or not. The Pets into Care team can help you find the right wording for your Will or Codicil. By working with your vet, executor, next of kin or whoever you want to contact Blue Cross to admit your pet, they will also ensure they can care for your pet properly and make the right decisions about rehoming when the time comes.

Although the scheme is completely free to join, Blue Cross are hugely grateful for any contribution people can leave to help keep such a vital scheme going. Leaving a gift in your Will to Blue Cross is an amazing way of showing your thanks for the work they do, both in providing the Pets into Care scheme and also helping 40,000 sick, injured and homeless animals every year through their rehoming centres and animal hospitals across the UK.
