With this year’s Children in Need fast approaching, it has been revealed that the official single of 2017 will be released by singer, Katie Melua. The song, ‘Fields of Gold’ was one of Sir Terry Wogan’s favourites, and the song will honour the late presenter who worked tirelessly for the charity over his career with the BBC.
‘Fields of Gold’ was originally recorded by Sting in 1993 but has been re-recorded by Katie Melua playing the song on acoustic guitar.
“I am delighted to have accepted the invitation by BBC Children in Need to record and release this single to support the charity’s 2017 Appeal, in honour of the late Sir Terry Wogan.” Says Katie.
“He was a long-standing supporter of mine, and to re-record one of his favourite songs for a charity that was so dear to his heart is a privilege. I hope it goes on to make a real and lasting difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.”
Katie will be performing the single live on the BBC Children in Need Appeal Show on Friday 17th November at 9.50pm, BBC One. In the meantime, the track is available to download now, with all profits from the single going to the charity.
