Her Majesty the Queen has been voted the number one most admired person, among those coming up to or already in retirement, in a new survey by AXA Wealth. She was closely followed by Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, David Attenborough and Richard Branson.

Paul Riddell at AXA Wealth said, "As the nation is getting ready to celebrate the Queen's official birthday tomorrow, the research results reflect the immense depth of feeling we have for the Queen. This is seen in particular amongst the older generation who could have picked any celebrity or famous person when asked but feel a very strong affinity to her Majesty.

Our research has shown that people want to fill their retirement productively, with many becoming what we call 'later-life entrepreneurs'. It is therefore no surprise that the top five people that inspire the older generation of today are people who have continued to be dynamic and at the changing face of the world throughout their lives and well into retirement age.”

Comments by those who were surveyed included an overwhelming admiration for the Queen's dignity, dedication to her career, praise for her role as ambassador for the UK, and acknowledgement of how she is and has been a constant figure in their lives.
