There’s not long to wait now until Mary Poppins Returns will be in cinemas. The movie will feature a star studded cast with Emily Blunt, Julie Walters, Colin Firth and Meryl Streep to name a few. Even Dick Van Dyke will be making an appearance, leading many to wonder why Julie Andrews wasn’t going to be in the film.

Speaking to Variety, Emily Blunt, who’ll be playing Mary Poppins, has revealed the real reason Julie Andrews won’t be in the film.

"There was discussion about, you know, that maybe she would come and do a bit in the movie and she was so generous actually," Emily said.

"She said to Rob [Marshall, the director], 'Do you know what this is? This is Emily's version of her and I don't want it to be that she's playing Mary Poppins the whole way through, but then I come in and there's like 'Oh, but there's the real Mary Poppins ' you know?'"

It seems the lovely Julie Andrews was wanting Emily Blunt to have her shining moment and not steal the limelight, and according to reviews, Emily makes a great Mary Poppins!

We can’t wait to see Mary Poppins Returns, out December 21.
