There's even more heartache for poor Elton John after his mother's passing this winter, with news that she snubbed her son in her will.
Reports say that Elton has been left two ceramic vases in his mother's will - and nothing else. Meanwhile the assistant who is thought to have been in part responsible for a feud between mother and son is set to take half of her money. Elton's half brother and a friend of his mother are set to inherit the rest of Sheila Farebrother's £534,000 fortune.
It's particularly sad because Elton and his mother had recently reconciled after a long dispute, so it's perhapsa shame that her will did not reflect this.
In December we reported on the sad loss of his mother:
Our thoughts are with Sir Elton John after he has lost his mother. Sheila Farebrother made it to the impressive aged of 92, but sadly passed away this morning.
The 70-year-old Rocket Man star said he was ‘in shock’. He performed at a concert last night in Barcelona, but no doubt will be clearing his schedule to grieve.
He said on Instagram: ‘So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning. I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock. Travel safe Mum. Thank-you for everything. I will miss you so much. Love, Elton.’
The pair had a tempestuous relationship, but thankfully had healed a nine-year rift in May this year. He announced their rekindled relationship with a Twitter post, announcing: ‘So happy we are back in touch. Love, Elton.’
It’s believed they had fallen out in 2008 after she refused his request not to talk to two of their oldest friends. She also said in 2015 that she was worried about Elton’s husband David’s influence over him, and suggested he had a controlling nature.
There was a particularly unpleasant moment when, for her 90th birthday, she hired an Elton John tribute act for her party. Her son sent her white orchids for her milestone birthday, and the two began to repair their relationship.
Nonetheless, even during their years of arguments, Elton continued to support his mother financially and pay for her home. He apparently last saw her a week ago.
It’s one of the worst feelings in the world to lose your mother, and it just goes to show that all the money and fame in the world don’t stop you feeling the same basic human sadness as the rest of us. We’re just so relieved that they were able to heal their relationship before she passed. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.
