  • Yarn Amounts: 2 balls MC and small amount CC
  • Hook: 3.5 and 4.5 mm / U.S. size E-4 and 7

GAUGE
16 sts and 18 rows in dc with larger hook = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in.
Adjust hook sizes to obtain correct gauge if necessary.

ARMS
With larger hook and MC, ch 3. Work 2 dc in 2nd ch from hook and then 4 dc in the last ch; 2 dc in the same ch as for the first 2 dc. Join into a ring with 1 sl st into 1st dc = 8 dc.
Continue around but turn after every rnd. End all rnds with 1 sl st into 1st dc; turn and work back. Begin all rnds with ch 1 (does not count as 1 dc), 1 dc in 1st st. Continue as follows:
Rnd 1: 2 dc in 1st st, 2 dc, 2 dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc, 2 dc in last st = 12 dc.
Rnd 2: Work 1 dc in each st. Repeat Rnd 2 until arm is 11 cm / 41/4 in long.
On the next rnd, dec 2 sts = 10 sts.
Cut yarn and bring end through last st. Fill the arm and set aside. Make the other arm the same way and fill.

LEGS
Work as for arms through Rnd 1.
Rnd 2: 2 dc in 1st st, 4 dc, 2 dc each in next 2 sts, 4 dc, 2 dc in last st = 16 dc.
Rnd 3: 2 dc in 1st st, work to last st and end with 2 dc in last st = 18 sts.
Rnd 4: Work as for Rnd 3 = 20 sts.
Rnd 5: Work 1 dc in each st.
Rnds 6-8: Dec 2 sts on each rnd = 14 sts rem.
Repeat Rnd 5 until leg is 13 cm / 51/4 in long.
On the next rnd, inc evenly around to 17 sts; cut yarn and fasten off. Fill the leg and set aside. Make the other leg the same way and fill.
Joining legs: Insert hook into the 16th st of one leg. Ch 1, 1 dc in same st, work 16 dc across, insert hook into 3rd st of the other leg, work 17 sts across = 34 sts total. Begin and end all rounds as before. Now work body.

BODY
Rnd 1: 7 dc, (2 dc each in next 2 sts, 7 dc) 3 times = 40 dc.
Rnd 2: 8 dc, (2 dc each in next 2 sts, 9 dc) 2 times, 2 dc each in next 2 sts, 8 dc = 46 dc.
Rnd 3: 8 dc, 2 dc in next st, 28 dc, 2 dc in next st, 8 dc = 48 dc.
Rnd 4: Work 1 dc in each st.
Rnds 5-8: Work as for Rnd 4.
Rnd 9: 22 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 22 dc = 46 dc.
Rnd 10: Work as for Rnd 4.
Rnd 11: 8 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 20 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 8 dc = 40 dc.
Rnd 12: 18 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 18 dc = 38 dc.
Rnd 13: 8 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 14 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 8 dc = 34 dc.
Rnd 14: Work as for Row 4.
Rnd 15: 7 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 12 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 7 dc = 30 dc.
Rnd 16: Work as for Row 4.
Rnd 17: 6 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 10 dc, (dc 2tog) 2 times, 6 dc = 26 dc.
Rnd 18: 5 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 8 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 5 dc = 22 dc.
Rnd 19: 4 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 6 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 4 dc = 18 dc.

Fill body and then crochet the arms to the body:
Rnd 20: Begin with ch 1, 1 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times on body, insert hook into 8th st of one arm, work (2 dc tog) 5 times across arm, on body, work (2 dc tog) 2 times, insert hook into the 3rd st of other arm and then work as for first arm; on body work (2 dc tog) 2 times, 2 dc, 1 sl st into 1st st = 20 dc.
Rnd 21: Work as for Rnd 4.
Fill rest of body and continue with head which is worked onto body as follows:

HEAD
Rnd 1: 2 dc in 1st st, 3 dc, (2 dc each in next 2 sts, 3 dc) 2 times, 2 dc each in next 2 sts, 3 dc, 2 dc in last st = 28 dc.
Rnd 2: 2 dc in 1st st, 5 dc, (2 dc each in next 2 sts, 5 dc) 3 times, 2 dc in last st = 36 dc.
Rnd 3: 8 dc, (2 dc each in next 2 sts, 7 dc) 2 times, 2 dc each in next 2 sts, 8 dc = 42 dc.
Rnd 4: Work 1 dc in each st.
Rnds 5-9: Work as for Rnd 4.
Rnd 10: 19 dc (2 dc tog) 2 times, 19 dc—40 dc.
Rnd 11: 18 dc (2 dc tog) 2 times, 18 dc—38 dc.
Rnd 12: 2 dc tog, 5 dc, *(2 dc tog) 2 times, 6 dc; rep from * once more, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 5 dc, 2 dc tog = 30 dc.
Rnd 13: 5 dc, *(2 dc tog) 2 times, 4 dc; rep from * once more, (2 dc tog) 2 times, 5 dc = 24 dc.
Rnd 14: 2 dc tog, *2 dc, (2 dc tog) 2 times; rep from * twice more, 2 dc, 2 dc tog = 16 dc.
Fill head. Work (2 dc tog) around last 2 rnds. Cut yarn, bring end through last st and sew hole together.

EARS
Each ear has an inner and outer part; each piece is the same—crochet 4 pieces.
With smaller hook and CC, ch 5.
Row 1: Skip 2 ch, work 5 dc in next ch, skip 1 ch, work 1 sl st in last ch; turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, (2 dc in each st) 5 times, 1 dc in ch; turn = 12 sts.
Row 3: Ch 1, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc, 2 dc in next st, 4 dc, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc) 2 times = 16 sts.
Cut yarn and bring tail through last st.
Join two pieces, working 1 dc through both layers along the rounded outer edge. Cut yarn and fasten off.

FINISHING
Weave in all ends neatly on WS. Sew on ears securely. Embroider the eyes and mouth with CC. We used satin stitch for the features.
