MATERIALS

  • 2 (2:3:3:4:4) 50g balls Sirdar Snuggly DK F075 yarn in 441
  • Pair each 3.25mm (UK10) and 4mm (UK8) knitting needles
  • 2 safety pins
  • 2 stitch holders
  • 3 buttons 

TENSION

Always check tension carefully and adjust needle sizes throughout if necessary.

22 sts and 28 rows = 10cm/4in square over st-st using 4mm needles.

It is essential to work to the stated tension to ensure success.

Patt stitches are worked over a 9st panel set into stocking st, these 4 rows form the pattern.

Using 3.25mm needles cast on 115(127:139:155:167:179)sts.

Work 3 rows in g-st.

4th row k4, leave these 4 sts on a safety pin, knit to last 4 sts, leave these 4 sts on a safety pin.

Change to 4mm needles starting with row 1 of patt proceed as follows:

1st row (RS) k4, patt 9, k to last 13 sts,

patt 9, k4. 

2nd row p4, patt 9, p to last 13 sts,

Working in patt and st-st as set (throughout) cont until work measures 10(13:16:19:22:27)cm/4(5¼:6¼:7½:

8¾:10¾)in, ending with a WS row.

Divide for Back and Fronts

Next row Work 21(24:27:29:31:34)sts in patt and st-st as set, leave these sts on a stitch holder for right front, cast off 4(4:4:6:6:6)sts, k44(50:56:60:64:70], leave these 45(51:57:61:65:71)sts on a stitch holder for back, cast off 4(4:4:6:6:6)sts, work 20(23:26:28:30:33)sts in patt and st-st as set.

LEFT FRONT

Working on these 21(24:27:29:31:34)sts only proceed as follows:-

Shape Raglan

Work 2(4:6:6:4:6) rows dec one st at raglan edge in every row. 19(20:21:23:27:28)sts.

Work 15(15:17:15:19:21) rows dec one st at raglan edge in next and every foll alt row. 11(12:12:15:17:17)sts.

Shape Neck

Maintaining patt as set throughout:

Next row cast off 2(2:5:4:5:5)sts work as set to end. 9(10:7:11:12:12)sts.

For 2nd, 5th and 6th sizes only

Work 2 rows dec one st at raglan edge in next row only AT SAME TIME dec one st at neck edge in every row.

For 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th sizes only

Work 2(4:2:2) rows dec one st at each end of next and foll 0(2nd:0:0) row. 7 sts.

For all 6 sizes

Work 4 rows dec one st at raglan edge in next and foll alt row AT SAME TIME dec one st at neck edge in next row only.

BACK

Shape Raglan

Work 24(24:24:26:30:32) rows dec one st at each end of next and every foll alt row. 17(19:21:23:27:27)sts.

Cast off rem 17(19:21:23:27:27)sts.

RIGHT FRONT

With WS facing, rejoin yarn to rem 21(24:27:29:31:34)sts left on a stitch holder for Right Front and  work as for Left Front, reversing all shaping.

SLEEVES (both alike)

Using 3.25mm needles cast on 30(30:32:32:38:40)sts, work 4 rows

in g-st.

Change to 4mm needles and working in st-st (throughout) inc one st at each end of 5th and every foll 6th(4th:4th:6th:10th:8th) row to 40(40:40:42:50:50)sts.

For 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th sizes only

Inc one st at each end of every foll (6th:6th:8th:12th:10th) row to (44:48:48:52:58)sts.

For all 6 sizes

Cont without shaping until sleeve measures 15(17:20:24:29:33)cm/6(6½:8:9½:11½:13)in, or length required, ending with a WS row.

Shape Raglan

Cast off 2(2:2:3:3:3)sts at beg of next 2 rows. 36(40:44:42:46:52)sts.

For 1st, 4th and 5th sizes only

Work 4(8:4) rows dec one st at each end of 1st and every foll 0(4th:0) row. 34(38:44)sts.

For all 6 sizes

Work 22(28:30:24:30:38) rows dec one st at each end of next and every foll alt row. 12(12:14:14:14:14)sts.

Cast off rem 12(12:14:14:14:14)sts.

LEFT FRONT BORDER

Join raglan seams. Using 3.25mm needles cast on 1 st (this st to be used for sewing border to front), with RS facing, knit across 4 sts left on a safety pin. 5 sts.

Working in g-st cont until border is of sufficient length, when slightly stretched to go along front edge to neck shaping, ending with a WS row.

Leave these 4 sts on a safety pin.

Mark positions for 2 buttons, lowest one in line with raglan, the other button slightly higher than halfway.

RIGHT FRONT BORDER

Using 3.25mm needles cast on 1 st (this st to be used for sewing border to front), with WS facing, knit across 4 sts left on a safety pin. 5 sts.

Working in g-st cont until border is of sufficient length, when slightly stretched to go along front edge to neck shaping, ending with a RS row, working buttonholes to correspond with markers.

Buttonhole row (RS) K2, yfwd, k2tog, k1.

Do not break off yarn.

NECKBAND

With RS facing and using 3.25mm needles, knit across 5 sts at top of right front border as follows: k3, k2tog, pick up and knit 9(9:10:13:14:14)sts evenly along right side of neck, 11(11:13:13:13:13)sts from sts at top of right sleeve, 16(18:20:22:26:26)sts from sts at  back of neck, 11(11:13:13:13:13)sts from sts at top of left sleeve, 9(9:10:13:14:14)sts evenly along left side of neck and work across 5 sts left on a safety pin for left front border as follows: - K2tog, k3. 64(66:74:82:88:88)sts.

Work 1 row in g-st.

Next row K2, yfwd, k2tog, knit to end.

Work 2 rows more in g-st.

Cast off.

TO MAKE UP

Join sleeve seams. Sew borders evenly in position. Sew on buttons. Pin out garment to the measurement given. Cover with damp cloths and leave

until dry.
