- 3x25g balls Wendy Air in shade 2618 Eva (yarn is used double throughout)
- Pair each 3.25mm (UK 10) and 4mm (UK 8) knitting needles.
- 3.25mm (UK 10) circular knitting needle.
- TENSION (GAUGE)
- 20 sts and 28 rows = 10cm/4in square over st-st using 4mm needles with yarn held double.
- It is essential to work to the stated tension to ensure success.
Beg - beginning; cm - centimetres; cont - continue; dec - decrease(ing); foll - following; in - inch(es); inc - increase(ing); k – knit; mm - millimeters; 0 - no rows; p - purl; rem - remain(ing); rep - repeat; RS - right side; st(s) - stitch(es); st-st – stocking stitch (knit RS rows, purl WS rows); WS - wrong side.
Row 1 (RS): knit.
Row 2 and alt rows: k2, *p4, k2; rep from * to end.
Row 3: *k2, k2tog, yo, k2; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 5: knit.
Row 7: *k4, yo, ssk; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Row 8: k2, *p4, k2; rep from * to end.
These 8 rows form Lace Pattern.
RS rows: k1 *p1, k1; rep from * to end.
WS rows: p1, *k1, p1; rep from * to end.
Every round: *k1, p1; rep from * to end.
Figure in brackets () refers to larger size (see measurements chart). Where one set of figures is given this applies to both sizes. If a zero is given, this means you do not need to work these instructions. Circle the size you wish to make before you start.
With 2 strands of yarn held together and using larger needles, cast on 56 (62) sts. Work in lace patt for 12 (13)cm/ 4¾ (5)in, ending with a WS row.
Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 50 (56)sts.
Dec one st at each end of every alt row 4 times. 42 (48)sts.
Cont without shaping until armhole measures 9.5 (11)cm/3¾ (4½)in, ending with a WS row.
Cast off 10 (7) sts at beg of next 2 (4) rows. Cast off rem 22 (20)sts.
Using larger needles, cast on 8 (14)sts and work 2 rows in lace patt.
Keeping patt correct, cast on 3sts at beg of next and foll alt rows to 20 (26)sts.
Inc 1 st at same edge of foll alt rows to 26 (32)sts.
Cont in patt until piece measures same as back to armhole, ending with a RS row.
Next row (WS): cast off 3 sts at beg of row. 23 (29)sts.
Dec 1 st at same edge of alt rows 4 times. 19 (25)sts.
Keeping patt correct, cont until armhole measures 5cm/2in, ending with a WS row.
Next row (RS): Dec one st at neck edge of next row, then every foll row 5 (8) times. 13 (17)sts.
Dec 1 st at neck edge of every alt row until 10 (14) sts rem.
Keeping patt correct, cont until armhole measures same as back to shoulder, ending with a RS row.
Cast off 10 (7)sts at beg of next row and 0 (7) sts on foll alt row.
Work as for right front, reversing all shaping.
Sleeves (make 2)
Using smaller needles, cast on 25 (37)sts and work 2.5cm/1in in 1x1 rib, inc one st at end of last row. 26 (38)sts.
Change to larger needles and cont in lace patt. Keeping patt correct, inc one st at each end of 3rd row, then every foll 4th row to 30 (40)sts.
Cont without shaping until sleeve measures 7cm/3in, ending with a WS row.
Shape sleeve top
Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 24 (34)sts.
Dec one st at each end of every 2nd row 2 (5) times. 20 (24)sts.
Dec one st at each end of every 3rd row 4 (1) times. 12 (22)sts.
Dec one st at each end of every 2nd row 2 (5) times. 8 (12)sts.
Cast off rem 8 (12) sts loosely.
Join shoulder seams, set in sleeves, then sew up side and sleeve seams.
Using circular needle and starting at the bottom right side seam, pick up and knit 66 (72)sts along right front edge, 22 (20)sts from back neck and 66 (72)sts down left front edge, and 56 (62)sts along bottom of the back. (210 (226)sts)
Work 6 rounds 1x1 rib. Cast off loosely.
Weave in ends. Block or press carefully.
Refer to ball band for washing and further care instructions.
The band can be knit back and forth in rows of 1x1 rib and seamed if you aren't used to working in the round. You will still need a circular needle.
