Mary had almost given up on finding love, but after meeting Martin online they’re now planning their wedding!

I never thought I'd find love again

Before I met Martin I’d been by myself for 14 years. I’d been married twice before and at the beginning I enjoyed my independence but the novelty soon wore off. 

“As I got older I didn’t like being alone and wanted to find someone to share my life with. I tried a few dating websites and personal ads but never seemed to find anyone who wanted the same things as me.

“I’d almost given up hope but then saw an ad for Friends of Yours in Yours magazine and thought I’d give it a go.

“Then I spotted Martin – his photo was nice and from what he’d written he seemed to have the same values and beliefs as me. I emailed him and we talked online – he really seemed genuine and kind. Then we started chatting on the phone; we were talking for hours.

“We had lots in common – we both spoke German, we liked travelling and neither of us wanted to be alone. The first time we met was a bit nervewracking but as silly as it sounds it was like we’d known each other for years.

“Since then we’ve been seeing each other every weekend. I live in Shrewsbury and Martin lives a two-hour drive away in Chesterfield but he’s so kind he always drives to see me. I never thought I’d find anyone like Martin and when we decided to get married in two years’ time it was the icing on the cake! I’m thrilled to bits!

“I keep thinking that this is all a fantastic dream, where I’ve met a lovely man and soon I’m going to wake up. I can honestly say I wouldn’t have met Martin if it wasn’t for Yours. I’m so glad I went on the website!

“After more calls and meetings we decided we wanted to be together. One day we were talking about the future and Mary said: ‘When you put a ring on my finger I’ll know you’re serious.’ So I did! We hope to get married in two years’ time when I retire so we can be together.”
