I'm meeting somebody for dinner later on tonight. Are there any tips relating to body language that you might have in order for me to have a head start on what's going on?

You can tell so much from a person's body language, so it's worth finding out what you're really saying...
Body language basicsFolded armsA classic defensive posture, which indicates shyness. The person is creating a physical barrier to protect themselves. Hands in pocketsWe use our hands to express ourselves, so a person with their hands in their pockets could be secretive and good at hiding their feelings. Or they could just be cold! Signs of stressSomeone who’s twiddling their thumbs, tapping their feet, or repeatedly smoothing their clothes or hair is probably stressed. Fidgeting is a way of relieving nervous tension.MirroringIf your date mirrors your movements, such as sipping their drink when you sip yours, then they like you. And by copying their movements, you’ll subconsciously show them that you like them too. Don’t make it too obvious though!Tip – To make a positive impression keep an open body posture and remember to smile!

Be open about yourself but not over the top. If you're meeting someone for the first time it can be intimidating if someone is trying a bit too hard to make you like them - I find it a bit intimidating. Good eye contact is always a good way of gauging whether the person you are talking to is interested in what you are saying or has one eye on their watch. I wouldn't concern yourself with what someone else thinks of you. Enjoy your evening out, be yourself and if anything comes of it then that's a bonus.
