The new English National Bus Scheme begins on the 1st April 2008 and is eligible for use throughout England, although there are certain limitations.

An ordinary Freedom Pass in London allows you unlimited travel on all public transport within the designated zones. The National Scheme Freedom pass is eligible in England outside London between 9.30am and 11.00pm, Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and on public holidays.

Therefore while you can use the pass for bus travel in and around Clacton-On-Sea and Bath, you can only do so during these times. If you use it at other times you may be subject to a fine.

To avail of this new concession you will also need to renew your existing pass (if you already have one) although you will not have to actually apply for the National Pass. The new pass will have an expiry date of 31 March 2010.

If you wish to contact your local bus company to ask about specific routes, times and pass eligibility log on to  www.traveline.org.uk or call 0871 200 2233.

For anyone who hasn't seen the new pass you can find a specimen picture and some helpful information on its terms of use at http://www.freedompass.org/questionsanswered.htm#national.
