I'd like to treat my mum to a something different for her birthday surprise, can you recommend anything?

How about a one-day perfumery course in the lovely Cotswolds?  The day starts with a Welcome talk and tour of the perfume garden, where you'll learn about the essential oils used in each perfume.

You'll then be given an explanation of all of the laboratory equipment you'll be using. Lunch is provided at a local restaurant and then in the afternoon you'll begin blending your own perfume. Along the way you'll have coffee breaks, so you'll have plenty of time to relax and enjoy your day.

The day runs from 9.15am to 4pm at the Cotswold Perfumery in Bourton-on-the-Water, with expert John Stephen, for £125. To remind you of your day you'll go home with a 25ml fully packaged bottle of your own perfume plus a complimentary 100ml bottle of your choice from the Cotswold perfumery range.

Alternatively why not take a factory tour for just £5 for a 45 minute tour?

Whilst I can't recommend a particular model, the one thing I considered when buying mine was weight. A portable laptop can become surprisingly heavy to carry around and they all differ, so check the weight.

I find the ACER TravelMate easy to use , Its under £400. I only started to learn the computer at 73 years old and have had no problems. Good Luck. Brenda.

Margo, This may not be the cheapest, but it represents good value for money. Aldi's PC offers are a well-kept secret and I know quite a few people who are only too pleased to point out that their machine does everything mine does and more with a saving of £100 thrown in.
