I get constipated a lot, I’m too embarrassed to go to the doctor, what can I do?

You need to eat plenty of roughage and fesh fruit - regularly. What works for me is that for breakfast I always have bran flakes or similar cereal (fruit & fibre, shreddies etc), a cup of plain yoghurt, a banana, all washed down with a cup of tea. This for me guarantees that I go to the toilet to empty my bowels regularly. Try it!

Just another thing I discovered - rather later on in life - I never acknowledged the "feeling of wanting to go to the toilet". I was never trained to do this when I was young and my lifestyle became so busy that I ignored the signs, constantly. I now realise that I have to go when my body tells me. Listen to what your body tells you and "go" when it tells you. Otherwise the pain of straining can have damaging results.

I too suffer with constipation. For years I tried eating loads of fruit/prunes/curries - anything that had fibre or roughage but eventually found that the thing that works for me (on top of all that roughage) is TWO LITRES OF WATER A DAY and exercise. It surprised me to discover that water had such a moving effect!

If you look up LooStool by Thoughtful Products Ltd you will be able to read about adjusting your position whilst sitting on the toilet. A small adjustment to your posture by raising your feet, helps line up the anus and your rectum. The benefits of this position are a complete strain free bowel evacuation.
