HI jamik, i have recently had 'radio therapy' and like you have suffered extremes of tiredness. I completed my course at the end of march 08, my energy levels have increased over the past week. the best way is to do a little then rest a while. take care.

Dear Jamik I had cancer 5 1/2 years ago and have fully recovered as I hope you will. What all the others say is true. I had massive dosage of radiotherapy and some days could barely walk in & out of the hospital. I was given strong painkillers & in my naivety said I thought 8 was max in a day. The nurse said `your body is fighting cancer & now has radiotherapy - give it a break` So give your body a chance to recover, take one step at a time but be positive. Give yourself time. All the best.

pHello you dont say how long ago you had your treatment for cancer or the type of treatment and cancer , I found radiotherapy extremely tying one fellow suffer explained it as if she had a tap on her big toe and all her energy was pouring out still tired even after a good sleep./p pLast week John had his 1st yearly check up with his surgeon he mentioned how tired he was the surgeon said after the surgery and chemotherapy it will be a while before he gets all his energy back./p pListen to your body and rest and look after yourself. /p

I finished my treatment for cancer eight years ago. It was a strong course of chemo followed by radiotherapy and I was totally exhausted by the end. As soon as treatment finished I started going for a walk with a friend everyday. Not far to begin with though, just building up gently to walking for about an hour. I also was fortunate enough to have a local Cancer Care charity who offered advice and complementary therapies (I found reflexology very effective). It takes time to bring your body back to full health so you must be patient. Remember to listen to your body and if you have taken some exercise and feel tired, then have a nap - I still do! Things will improve for you, but it will take time - when my hair grew back it took three years before it had the same texture as before. I found it helpful to make a list of things I needed to do and tried to achieve one or two a week - it's no use pushing yourself to the limit - your body can't and won't let you. The best advice I was given is 'Be kind to yourself' I wish you better soon and hope this is of some use to you.

Hi Jamik - I have been here and understand how you are feeling. It does improve, and you can determine when that will be. The secret is to be patient, your body has been through a terrible ordeal and needs to rest. The fact that you are tired is your bodies way of telling you it needs to stop for a bit. Respect your instincts, do not put yourself under stress worrying about it. If you feel tired - rest. Plan your commitments to fit in the rest and soon you will see you are managing to cope with more. It is five years for me and even now I occasionally have to give in to my body, I believe all this has been a learning experience for me to understand how my (ageing) body works. Being positive is the main thing, so stay focused on your future and all the things you still want to do. You are through the worst - make the most of the future. Sheila xx
