Do you have to pay VAT on medicines you need to buy for your pets from the vets?
By Yours Money Expert
Medicine costs for pets requiring regular prescription drugs can be extremely expensive. Especially so, if you factor in consultation fees and VAT on the drugs themselves. Many people wrongly assume that medicines can only be obtained via the veterinarian treating your pet.
You can make substantial savings on repeat prescriptions by going direct to a supplier or retailer, rather than relying on your vet. Though you will never avoid VAT, by researching your pet's condition and the medicines your vet has prescribed previously, it is possible to limit your expenditure.
One site, which offers medicines at up to a third less than the cost you would pay if you obtained them via your vet, is Bestpet.
You will need a prescription to purchase the drugs, but most vets will provide this service for a small fee.

A trip to the vet is always a good idea if nothing else to rule out any health issues. My dog was having serious problems that I couldn't figure out.For the last 2 months our Tucson vet has had him on an anti-anixiety drug.I could not see that coming,my dog having anxiety issues. So,from now on,although it might cost a little more, for me it will always be the vet that will call the shots.
