My husband & I left a 24/7 position as care home owners (for people with learning disabilities). We receive our private pension & monthly income from our savings & we still have more outgoings than incomings. I am 59 and after applying for different jobs, have not been successful - my husband is 60 this year. We are not signing on or claiming any benefits, but are we entitled to anything to help us or, shall I just spend all our savings, and then go onto Income Support etc which we do not really want to do.

My grandparents were almost in the same situation like you and they've tried to find a job in order to save some money and to afford paying their taxes.Nobody wanted to hire them as they are considered too old even if they are only 60 years old and they don't have any medical problem.Recently one of my friends who is working at a Forex Trading company proposed to my grandfather to work with him.He accepted and the salary is very good. Moreover this job makes him feel useful and confident.

If your husband turned 60, he might be able to get the pension, that could help you. You shouldn't struggle so much to have money. Also, try www.clickbooth.com, it could be an easy way for you to gain some extra cash. Good luck!

If you cannot work because of a physical or mental disability, you may want to apply for Social Security disability benefits. While a learning disability does not automatically qualify a person for Social Security Disability benefits, it can qualify in some circumstances. The applicant must show a loss of cognitive ability that impairs daily living, social functioning, concentration or work, or have significant medical documentation of the learning disability and the work-related problems it causes.

Hi , all you have to do is contact your local Council's Housing/Council Tax benefit office who will tell you if you may qualify for help in paying rent and/or council tax. As soon as one of you is 60 you can call the Pensions Service who will advise if you qualify got Pension Credit. They are very helpful so give them a call.
