I’d like to take up a exercise, but I’m not what you’d call energetic. The thought of running round a sports hall or pounding away in a gym isn’t my cup of tea. Do you have any other suggestions?

Yoga combines physical and mental exercises to promote flexibility, reduce stress, and increase stamina and strength – reasons enough to give it a go. Yoga means ‘union’ and practising the ancient discipline leads to a better balance of mind, body and spirit.

You can even tailor your own practice to develop these attributes according to your needs. Regular practise is recommended, even just ten minutes relaxation. Rest assured, yoga doesn’t have to be about standing on your head or sitting in fancy cross-legged positions! Just wear clothing that won’t restrict your movement.

Join a class to start with. Some have non-slip floor mats but it’s a good idea to take a blanket.
