Can anyone tell me how to get rid of snails without using chemicals or slug pellets?

Slug and snail killer without the use of chemicals. Yours gardening and Garden Answers web editor Geoff Stebbings offers some useful tips.
Slugs and snails are the worst pests in most gardens. If used correctly, slug pellets pose no threat to wildlife but there are other methods if you want to avoid chemicals.
From April to September you can add a biological control, usually sold as ‘Nemaslug’ to the soil. This is very effective but only kills slugs, not snails. Many gardeners find that copper rings around plants work well, or you can trap them by leaving some lettuce leaves on the soil – it attracts the pests and you can then pick them up and dispose of them however you see fit.

I have always found that a circle or barrier of ordinary table salt round the plant, does the job. Place salt on paper, so as not to harm your soil and watch the little critters shrivel up.

One more thought, copper tape works well if you put it around your pots, I tried this when I tried to grow cabbages in pots, perfect, but I forgot about the one thing that loves cabbages, butterflies!, so now my perfect cabbages have been eaten by catterpilars!! I like the sound of Vaseline and WD40, I'll give those a try, and the oats, what great tips, thank you

beer traps work really well, use something shallow and put it near any plants that get nibbled regularly, next morning just get rid of what you find

For the last 5 years we have used Nemaslug and it works, then next year we have the same level of infestation. I belive that I am invaded by my neighbours slugs who go looking for pastures new.
